Using your Voice to Heal

There is a vast amount of information to glean by listening carefully to our own voice. The voice is a window into our own subconscious mind and gives insights into ourselves at deeper levels than our consciousness allows.

It is easier to notice someone else is a liar, than to acknowledge our own lack of truthfulness – especially when it is hidden from us. We push negative feelings and thoughts into our subconscious mind, which has a powerful hold on us, while we are totally unaware. We become a storage container rather than a vehicle for expression.  Our subconscious mind stores memories of long forgotten childhood events, past life information and latent genetic tendencies from ancestors.

The voice links our conscious and our subconscious minds. We may not be aware of our subconscious mind’s language, because it is not expressed in words. We can, however, understand it by listening to the subtle qualities in our voice.

What are the ways that our voice changes when we aren’t 100 percent committed to our words? How is our voice different when we say something polite, but not quite true? Are we trying to be kind, but not really mean it on a deeper level? Listen to subtleties in the voice!

·       Try saying “I don’t care” when you do.  Now say that “you don’t care” about something, when you don’t. Notice the difference between the two voices.

·       Listen to rhythms of phrases in your voice. The speed of speaking changes in our voices. What does that mean for you? You may hang on certain words for emphasis.

·       The pitch and melody of your voice changes significantly. The same voice pitch can sound high or low, full of thin. When this changes, our subconscious mind might be adding emotions that we are unaware of, which color our speech.

·       Your voice carries emotions: anger, happiness, sickness

·       Pretend you are an actor. Now, in your acting role, say “I don’t care’ when you do. When acting, one can say things that are not true, with close to his normal speaking voice.

Emotions that we have suppressed – surprise us. Negative subtle feelings in our voice give us clues about what invisible baggage we store. Our subtle sounds are a window into repressed emotions. If we don’t acknowledge this crap, we can’t release it.

When one is depressed, joyful music is irritating. Depression needs to be released before one can enjoy upbeat music. Sad music stirs old pain, bringing it to the surface. It enables one to reconnect with feelings that he had long ignored, leading to emotional catharsis.

The Healing Flower Symphonies (found at creatively take you into the dark side of emotions (such as impatience versus patience) as a cathartic release – cleansing emotional baggage. Whatever is repressed has power over us; we have been trained since our earliest years to repress negative emotions. These do not vanish, but show up as an outward negative energy, such as anger or aggression, or an inward force manifesting as depression, insecurity or illness.

The antidote is to find & feel your pain – then it releases. This is why grieving works. This isn’t as frightening or as painful as you think. It will not destroy you. Within a surprisingly brief time the pain will dissipate. Simply listen to music and let it help you feel free.
